Thanks to everyone who took part in our +11 in ’11 Reading Challenge. Over in the discussion forums on our Goodreads group, someone jokingly said the next challenge will be +12 in ’12. I know some of you far surpassed your goal for 2011, but I just barely made it and don’t think I can add a dozen more books next year, so I’m tweaking the challenge a bit.

This year, the challenge is simply 12 in ’12, and can be interpreted however you would like. Some of the ideas that have already been thrown around the Goodreads discussion forum:

• 12 oldest titles on your to be read list
• 12 works of non-fiction
• 12 books by Booktopia authors
• 12 classics
• 12 graphic novels
• 12 x 12 = 144 books in 2012
• 12 books you already own (as inspired by the book Howards End is on the Landing: A Year of Reading from Home)

You can choose as many, or as few interpretations of 12 in ’12 as you’d like! As for me, I’m finally going to tackle many of the books that have been on the bookcase next to my bed the longest. I’m going to read 12 books and 12 graphic novels from my version of a nightstand. I’ll be tracking them in Goodreads, using the tags Nightstand12 and NightstandGN12, in case you want to follow my progress. I’ll definitely be reading many more than 12 books by Booktopia authors, so I’ll track those too.
