Another great book (going with the theme) is The New Lifetime Reading Plan. It was recommended to me by someone on the Barnes and Noble group message board.

It’s mostly classics, but there’s an addendum in the back with more modern works.

I’m a real sucker for this type of book.

I love both 1001 Books Your Must Read Before You Die and the one Tom mentioned 100 One-Night Reads (a book lover’s guide).

Hi Ann and Michael,
I enjoy your podcast very much. I have a copy of 1001 Books Your Must Read Before You Die and I look at it every now and again and pick one book at random to read. I also would like you to have a look at a book by two brothers, David C. Major and John S. Major called 100 One-Night Reads (a book lover’s guide).
They put together 100 of their all time favorite books, and each of these books can be read in a single evening. I am slowly working my way through their list.
I loved On Chesil Beach and look forward to having a look at the other suggestions, you have on this months Blog. All the best, Tom
