BBAWButtonIt’s time for another giveaway… five of them, in fact! In honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week , we’ll be giving away five books at the end of next week, one for each day of BBAW. We haven’t finalized a list of books yet, so I guess they will all be surprises, but there will probably be a couple of advanced readers copies, a couple of hardcovers and maybe even an autographed book!

Here’s what you need to do: take a picture of your nightstand and the pile of books that are on (under, next to, or toppling off of) it. Post the photo to your blog or to flickr. Then leave a comment below with the URL of your photo and anything else you’d like to tell us; like any system you have for organizing the books, have you named the dust bunnies behind your pile, or the last time you had to upgrade to a bigger nightstand, etc.

We will randomly select four winners and then choose one that we love based on uniqueness, photo skills, book stacking abilities, etc.! So get your photos in by midnight, Friday 9/19 and clear a spot on the nightstand for yet another book!

  • Does it have to be a nightstand? Because I keep my books to read on top of my computer desk.

    Hi Callista,
So glad that you want to play!! We came up with the idea of photos of your nightstand because we are, after all, called Books on the Nightstand. And we’re hoping at some point to be able to use reader photos for various things down the line (this is a test).

We realize that not everybody *has* a nightstand, and we don’t want to exclude anyone. Though if you do have a nightstand, maybe you can move some books there and take a picture? We’re not going to send the Nightstand Police over to make sure that you actually have books on your nightstand all of the time šŸ™‚

We look forward to seeing your photo!

    Thanks,
    Ann

This is an unedited, unstaged view of my nightstand. Note that the lone “grownup” book (David Sedaris’s When You Are Engulfed in Flames) is outnumbered by the books I read to my four-year-old daughter every night, including Happy Halloween, Hello Kitty; Little Quack; and Parts. Every night she drags in three new selections from her bookcase. She hasn’t mastered putting things back where they belong (my fault, and the bane of my existence), so they pile up for weeks until I do a massive purge and sort, and take them back to her room.

Lori, love it! It looks kind of like my nightstand, except I can’t blame the mess on my kids. Thanks for playing!

If you had asked me to take pictures last week these would be entirely different pictures as I JUST moved my books from my nightstand (and you’d be amazed how many can actually fit there if you try – LOL) to the bookshelf in the guest bedroom. Of course as I told my husband last night, it didn’t take too long for others to take their place. The bottom two pictures on my blog are the books I moved from the nightstand and little bookcase next to the bed as well as those stacked on the floor last week.

    I’m in!
My nightstand is guarded by a pink octopus; she’s also helpful for for turning pages if reading more than one book at a time. Those 8 tentacle/turners are…pardon the pun..handy!

No pink octopus… and I don’t usually read in bed. But there are my books!

  • My books are stacked on the stairs. No room on the nightstand and so I won’t forget that I have them checked out from the Library.
    My stack is shown here.

Here is a picture of my nightstand. It is a overflow from the shelf next to it. As I say in the post, the shelf and nightstand serves many purposes for my family. Some of the books on it include “Math on call”(my oldest son’s) “My shape book” (my younger children’s) and “Finn” the book I am currently reading. The tractor is my youngest idea of a good use for a stack of books a construction site. Sorry for the trash at the end of my blog post—in my haste I forgot to delete the junk.

  • Here’s a link to my “nightstand.” I don’t have a typical nightstand, but a bookcase next to my bed. No matter how hard I try, my books always end up on the floor, toppled over in a mess. Maybe that means I need more bookcases. Anyhow, thanks for having such a fun contest!

  • When my mother moved in I gave her my bedroom furniture, which meant she got the nightstand. The funny part it still has books in it. That’s bad. See how many books I need to read.

IĀ’m part of the Book Blogger Appreciation week and I wanted to thank you for all you do to help promote books.

  • All done but I feel about guilty about the amazon order I just did when those are waiting for me. I usually keep them on the floor and there doesn’t seem so many as when they’re stacked up!
I do have a nice big nightstand though šŸ™‚

That’s funny that I came across this post because I posted a picture of my nightstand on my blog about a month ago. Lucky for me, my nightstand has closed shelving. That’s where I keep all my books, without the clutter.

I should have left a comment about my books:

I live in a tiny house with very limited space, so I that bookcase is all the space I allow myself for books. When it becomes clogged with books, I donate the spillover to our library. Deciding is hell.

I live in Mexico and just returned from a trip back home. The picture shows all the books I hauled back in my now broken suitcase.
