It probably won’t surprise many of you to know that I’ve been reading a lot lately. I’ve actually been on a bit of a reading roll! I’m dipping in and out of books and excerpts for my Summer sales conference. I’ve been reading a few graphic novels. I’m even reading something that’s not work related…
“Work Reading” – I put that in quotes because it’s not really work to have to read the stuff I’ve been reading. I’ve read excerpts from many books that I really enjoyed. I’ll never be able to get back to them all, but I’ve added the standouts to my nightstand and I hope to read them over the next month or so. I’ve
already read two novels you’ll hear more about in April and June.
Non-Work Reading – Okay, true confession time: I’ve never read Michael Pollan. Local eating and sustainability are relatively important to me, but I just haven’t gotten around to reading the leader in the field. But I have been captivated by Mark Bittman’s Food Matters. He’s written a great book on the food industry’s carbon footprint, coupled with his program for “sane eating.” He’s so sensible about all of his suggestions, yet he fully understands that you will and should treat yourself to the decadent foods you love. Some of the reviews I’ve read say that all of this info has been in Michael Pollan’s books already. But, since I haven’t read him, it’s all new to me.
Must Read in 2009 – I was browsing around Goodreads the other day, and noticed that someone has created a shelf for books that she must read this year. I scanned books that she and others have put on that kind of shelf. There are a few titles that are forthcoming in ’09, but most of them seem to be books that have been on nightstands for awhile. I’ve picked The 13 Clocks and Fraction of the Whole as books I will read this year. What are yours?
