Michael and I are getting ready to leave for Book Expo America, the annual gathering of publishers and booksellers. We will try to post a few updates from the show floor, but our main mission is to find cool new books, people, and things to tell you about in the upcoming months.

According to our recent survey, more than 20% of Books on the Nightstand readers and listeners work in publishing, bookselling, or libraries. That means that at least a few of our BOTNS friends are likely attending BEA. If you will be there, we want to meet you!

Michael and I will be at Booth 4077, Firebrand Technologies, on Friday 5/29 from 1-2 pm. Firebrand has thoughtfully provided space at their booth for book bloggers to meet their readers. There will be 44 book bloggers doing meet and greets at the booth throughout the course of the weekend. Check out the full schedule of “blog signings” (a tongue-in-cheek reference to the many author signings that happen at BEA), or download a pretty, printable pdf. And for those of you who haven’t yet listened to the Books on the Nightstand podcast because you read us at work, we’ll have some CDs of selected podcast episodes for you to listen to on the drive home.

I can’t wait to tell you more about the great books and authors we discover at BEA. In the meantime, I hope you find time to settle in with a great book!

I love NY (yes I know I sound like an ad) and the BEA! I’ve gone in years past as part of the audiobook experience and in years when it was held in WDC and NYC.

This year though, the logistics of the trip proved overwhelming and I won’t be able to go :-(

Hmmm, maybe I’ll send my husband around to say “HI!”

  2. Ann Kingman says:

Tanya, sorry we’ll miss you. I really want to meet you — and I know I still need to respond to your audio message, which I realized only recently was a personal message.

  3. Chris Kovach says:

You guys are lucky. I went to BEA one year when it was in LA and had a blast. Have fun!

  4. Susan says:

I’ll see you guys at the show–I’ll be there with my sister on Saturday…..

  5. Emily Carson says:

I sure wish I could be there. :) I am a huge advocate of your podcast and regularly recommend it to everyone I know. I hope you have a great time on your trip!

  6. Jackie says:

I went to BEA twice in Chicago and loved it! Wish it would come back to the midwest. It is such a great experience, and anyone that has the chance to go, should. You won’t regret it!

  7. Tanya says:

The word is that the BEA is now going to stay in NYC :-(

As much as I love NYC, I also like the idea of seeing other cities that I would not normally visit.

Next year it was supposed to be in Las Vegas.

  8. Chris Kovach says:

I was very bummed when I found out BEA isn’t coming to Vegas. I was looking forward to not having to travel to go.

  9. Michael says:

Though I probably wouldn’t have been able to go, the thought of a large amount of book people descending on Vegas was very humorous to me!

  10. Chris Kovach says:

LOL! I can see why that would be funny. It’s always interesting to read/hear what others think of Vegas. It’s like we’re two different cities. The one with the Strip and gambling and the other one; the one with schools and libraries and families.

Is it just me, or was BEA different this year? Kensington no showed and so did Dorchester! hey are all based in NYC. I still had a blast as always don’t get me wrong, but I was surprised by some of the cutbacks. Not that they are surprising really.
Looking forward to next year either way,
    Terry Kate

    Terry Kate,
Yes, it was different, to be sure. I think we may talk a little bit more in depth about BEA in general on the next podcast (though I haven’t spoken with Michael yet about it, so that may change). But in some ways, I think it was better and in some ways, not so much. The industry is evolving, for sure.

Sorry we didn’t get a chance to say hi (or if we did, I’m so sorry I’ve forgotten — the whole week was a blur).
