How’s everyone doing on the Reading Challenge? I’ve set aside the month of August to return to Moby Dick. I’ll be done with most of my work reading by then and will be able to dive back in.     I’m about a third of the way through volume 3 of Proust’s In Search of Lost Time and I think I’m finally beginning to “get” Proust. This volume is really striking to me with its dialogue between the characters which I guess I missed in volumes 1 and 2.

    I’m right in the middle of Pere Goriot (by Honore de Balzac.) I can see how people get caught up in Balzac and end up reading more than the one title in La Comedie Humaine though I think I would need a “traveler’s guide” to negotiate the whole of it!
