It seems like it’s been contest central around here, lately, I know. We are so lucky. I hope you will be, too.
Our friends at Knopf have given us a copy of The Girl Who Played With Fire to give away. It just came out last Tuesday and is the hottest book in stores right now. I spent this past weekend at the Newport Folk Festival, and of the 20 or so books I spotted, four were The Girl Who Played With Fire. Maybe those music fans are also fans of Books on the Nightstand: if you’ve listened to episode #36 of our podcast, you will know how much I love this book (I discuss it around the 16:00 minute mark, if you want to jump right to it).
As I said on the podcast, you don’t have to have read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to enjoy The Girl Who Played With Fire, but it does spoil some of the mystery in the first book if you haven’t. So for that reason, I’m also going to give away a paperback copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I blogged about a few weeks ago. You can choose which book you would like to receive if you win.
Each book will come with a very cool temporary tattoo created especially for the book, modeled here by our bookseller friends at The Northshire Bookstore:

Five runners-up will receive their very own temporary dragon tattoos. You may laugh, but many, many people have been begging me for their own tattoos. To all of you (you know who you are!), you’ll just have to enter and hope that you win!
To win, just post a comment here telling us which book you’d like if you win (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or The Girl Who Played with Fire). If you’ve read either one and want to tell our readers your thoughts, we’d love that, too! I will randomly draw one winner for each on Monday, August 10th at 5pm EST. Unfortunately, we are only able to mail prizes for this contest to US addresses.
Good luck!

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Vintage trade paperback

I haven’t read either, so please pick me!!!!
I haven’t read either so I’ll start at the beginning and request The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
It’s been on my TBR since hearing your wonderful thoughts about it. But of course the TBR pile is large.
Thanks!
I loved the Girl Who Played with Fire and have recommended it to many friends since I read it last year. I have sworn off buying books right now so I am eagerly awaiting my library to get a copy in (I’m on the waiting list). Would love to win my own copy!
I’ve read Girl With the Dragoon Tattoo and found it an interesting look into the character of a young woman with a less than desirable upbringing. I am looking forward to reading The Girl Who Played with Fire to learn more about her.
I would love to win the book!
I won’t lie, I was one of the beggars.
I’d love a copy of either book, but what I REALLY want is to be a runner-up!
I have read The girl with the dragon tattoo and it has become one of my favorite books ever. I am on a rather large waiting list at my library for The girl who played with fire so i would love to win that one. The tattoo would be so cool also.
Wow! I’ve listened to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (unabridged; narrated by Simon Vance) and despite the exposition and set-up which took up a good portion of the beginning of the novel, when the action started, Wow! I was counting the days and hours until I could dnload The Girl who Played with Fire and IMHO, it’s even better! The story is engaging from the start. I would love to have a copy of the original, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as it seems to somehow “fit” with the temporary dragon tattoo give-away!
The Girl Who Played with Fire! I have the other–just haven’t cracked it open yet. Hmmm…maybe today’s a good day to do that…
Please enter me for The Girl Who Played with Fire! I got The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for Christmas but haven’t read it yet.
I would love a copy of either book, but since I haven’t read the first, I’ll go with that one!
Also, I have a thing for dragons, so the temporary tattoo would be neat as well.
Thanks!
I have “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in my box of books “to be read.” Winning “The Girl Who Played with Fire” might be the incentive to read it next.
I would love to win a copy of The Girl Who Played with Fire. One of those nifty tattoos would be keen too! We’re having a reading at the store tomorrow night by a tattoo artist.
I’m coming out of a long hibernation away from reading, and I’d love to try out Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thanks so much!
OK, so I have both books already… I want the tattoo.
Oh my goodness. WANT.
I read “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” just recently and I could not put it down. I can’t wait to get my hands on “The Girl Who Played With Fire.” And that tattoo looks awesome!
Thanks, Michael and Ann!
As I’ve just finished listening to TGWTDT, I’d love to win The Girl Who Played With Fire!!

I enjoy thrillers and haven’t had one I truly enjoy for a while, so would love to read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I loved Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and can’t wait to read The Girl Who Played with Fire. If I win (please let me win!), I’d love a copy of Fire.
I would love to get the copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. For a variety of reasons, one of which is that I’ve heard fabulous things about it. I’ve had it in my hand no less than 5 times and haven’t gotten it. I’m also looking to get another tattoo and want to see how that one looks on me.
Ok, that third reason was completely false. Ok, partially false. I do want another tattoo but that has nothing to do with the reason that I want to win the book. I’ll even write a review on my blog.
I have both titles on my “to read” list per your recommendations. I would love to win The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thanks!
I haven’t read too many thrillers, but your praise has made me interested in checking this series out. I would love a copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I an anxious to read “The Girl Who Played with Fire”.
I read the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and felt some things about her character were not answered, so the new book should be interesting.
Hey, I wanna tattoo, too
I would love a copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as it’s been on my “to read” list for quite some time.

I haven’t read either book, but I do have the first on order from Amazon. Unfortunately, I live about 100 miles from the nearest bookstore.
Anyway, I would love a copy of The Girl Who Played with Fire . . . and the tattoo, of course.
I would love to win The Girl Who Played with Fire. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is actually next on my to be read pile. After your review, I can’t wait to read them! Thanks for the contest!
Have heard great things about The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo but since a friend has a copy I would love The Girl Who Played with Fire. I’ve hand sold a ton of these but working in books, can’t afford to buy one myself right now…
I have been wanting to read The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo for some time now. I couldn’t read the second book first, just not in my makeup!
I haven’t read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet, so that would be my choice if I was lucky enough to win.
I’d LOVE to win ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’. I just bought ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and while I haven’t read it yet, I have a hunch I’ll really like it. And so it’d be nice to follow it up with the sequel!
Oh, I am about 20 pages from the end of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and can’t imagine how he’s going to end it! The best book I’ve read all year
Thanks for the chance, I would love to win the Girl Who Played with Fire to follow up!!
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is at the top of my nightstand pile. Two of my co-workers have read it and have already started The Girl Who Played With Fire. Can’t wait to read both books.
I would rather win a copy of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. I’m planning on reading both of them (thanks to Ann’s constant reminders of their awesomeness), and don’t want to be spoiled.
Thanks for being contest-erific lately.
I guess since I haven’t read either of these yet, perhaps I should start with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thanks!
I’d love to get a copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!
I haven’t read either, so I’d love to win either one.
I haven’t read either so I’ll go with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
Please please please can I have The Girl Who Played with Fire? I finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Saturday night and cannot wait to find out about Lisbeth’s history.
ps my birthday is next Friday so this would make an excellent gift
I’d love to win The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I haven’t read either book, so I’d like to start with that one.
Great podcast guys. I’ve found so many great books from it.
I always like to start at the beginning of a series when possible, so although I would be thrilled to win either, I would request “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looks interesting. Hope I win!
I would love to read The Girl Who Played With Fire.
Thanks!
Hi, Ann -
I thoroughly enjoyed “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and would love to receive a copy of “The Girl Who Played with Fire.” I’m so sad that this very talented author is gone from us.
I have a friend who would love, love, LOVE the temporary tattoo!
