It seems like it’s been contest central around here, lately, I know. We are so lucky. I hope you will be, too. Our friends at Knopf have given us a copy of The Girl Who Played With Fire to give away. It just came out last Tuesday and is the hottest book in stores right now. I spent this past weekend at the Newport Folk Festival, and of the 20 or so books I spotted, four were The Girl Who Played With Fire. Maybe those music fans are also fans of Books on the Nightstand: if you’ve listened to episode #36 of our podcast, you will know how much I love this book (I discuss it around the 16:00 minute mark, if you want to jump right to it).

As I said on the podcast, you don’t have to have read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to enjoy The Girl Who Played With Fire, but it does spoil some of the mystery in the first book if you haven’t. So for that reason, I’m also going to give away a paperback copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I blogged about a few weeks ago. You can choose which book you would like to receive if you win.

Each book will come with a very cool temporary tattoo created especially for the book, modeled here by our bookseller friends at The Northshire Bookstore:

Five runners-up will receive their very own temporary dragon tattoos. You may laugh, but many, many people have been begging me for their own tattoos. To all of you (you know who you are!), you’ll just have to enter and hope that you win!

To win, just post a comment here telling us which book you’d like if you win (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or The Girl Who Played with Fire). If you’ve read either one and want to tell our readers your thoughts, we’d love that, too! I will randomly draw one winner for each on Monday, August 10th at 5pm EST. Unfortunately, we are only able to mail prizes for this contest to US addresses.

Good luck!

  5. Tim says:

I’ll throw my hat in for The Girl Who Played with Fire. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a worthwhile read for its genre but I thought it focused far too little on the most interesting character — “the girl with the dragon tattoo.”

As I’ve read (and heard) that the latest deals more with her, I decided to give it a shot — but am about 16th in line in the reserve list at the local library despite getting on the list about two weeks before the book was released.

I’d like the Girl Who Played With Fire, because I’ve already read the first one, in fact started a virtual book club in Second Life where we read that as our first pick! I don’t typically like crime novels, but liked this book because of the unique setting (really, how many books are set in northern Sweden?) and the characters intrigued me!

  13. Sarah K. says:

I’d like to be entered to win “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” please! I’ve heard such great things about this book.

I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in an advance copy. I was mesmerized. A friend picked up The Girl Who Played With Fire in England and loaned it to me several months ago. The two books are brilliant. I’d love to have my own copy of The Girl Who Played With Fire. I feel so sad that there can only be one more title in this series due to Larsson’s untimely death. I’ve assigned Dragon Tattoo to my mystery book group for October. I’d love to wear a dragon tattoo to the event!
