Books on the Nightstand, Episode 50 (18:13)
Here we are, our 50th episode! It’s been amazing and we’re looking forward to what the future brings for Books on the Nightstand. We couldn’t have come this far (or had such a great time!) if it weren’t for all of you, our loyal readers and listeners.
Thank you so much to Denise, Ashley and Shona who wrote in, and to Heather, Melissa, Suzanne and Tanya who called our voice mail line. They all shared books they loved, that they heard about here. All of the books mentioned are listed below and the titles link back to the original post or podcast where we first talked about the book. If you’ve been thinking about reading any of these, they now have even more enthusiasm behind them!
As Ann mentioned, Tanya’s story about Waiting for Columbus originally appeared in a guest post she wrote for us. If you haven’t read her post yet, you must. Once you do, you’ll want to listen to the audio or read the book for yourself!
Once again, thank you all for your continued support of Books on the Nightstand!

Happy 50th Podcast! I meant to phone in but forgot. Thank you for all the wonderful books you’ve introduced me too.
Especially The Girl with the Dragon tattoo, which I haven’t actually read, but which was my husband’s favourite birthday present this year. He is currently devouring The girl who kicked the Hornet’s nest. It’s nice to see him reading something un-work related!
I’m currently reading The Magicians – thanks for that recommendation too!
You’re very welcome Alexa!
I would love to know what you think of The Magicians… I really liked almost all of it.
Aw nuts. I’ve gotten a little behind since you went weekly (and also because I am a compulsive podcast subscriber.) I have read the following books all recommended by BOTNS: Fragment, Big Machine, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Panic in Level Four and The Road. Maybe the last one doesn’t count since it was for book club. I also bought Beowulf on the Beach as a result of your plugging-and I’m happy with it. I actually did not like The Road (which is a love it or hate it book if I’ve ever seen one) but Girl with Dragon was one of the best books I read all year. Or maybe THE best all year. I still have 2 months to decide : )
I have many others on my Goodreads To Read list on my BOTNS shelf.
Dear Ann and Michael,
Many thanks for all the good books that you have recommended on your podcast and blog!
I loved The Story of Edgar Sawtell and I don’t think that I would have come across it had you not talked about it on your show. Happy 50th Podcast to you!
Congratulations on your 50th episode! What a great milestone!
