Wonderful news! This morning, Rebecca Stead’s When You Reach Me was awarded the prestigious Newbery Medal. You may remember that I recently announced this as one of my favorite books of 2009 (it was also #6 on the list of our listeners’ faves).
I’m thrilled to know that this book is getting the recognition it so deserves and I hope the award on the front of the book will lead even more people to discover it!
A note to the five Books on the Nightstand listeners who won a signed, first edition of When You Reach Me: make sure you don’t spill coffee on that book!

I’ve heard great things about this book from other book bloggers. I have a library copy on my nightstand but need to finish my book group book first! Can’t wait to get to it now…

I am so excited about this! I predicted When You Reach Me would win AND thoght Calpurnia Tate would get an honor. Hooray!
I’ve been coveting my copy and not lending it out (but instead buying a new copy for folks who I knew HAD to have this book).
I’m so happy that it won the Newberry – it truly deserved it.
I bought this book at Christmas after your recommendations and am so looking forward to reading it and passing it along to others.
Hey Michael,
I just wanted to let you know that when I went to click on the link to see the Librarything page for “When you Reach Me” it actually directed me to the page for Dune by Herbert. I just wanted to give you the “heads up”!
I’m so thrilled that so many of you have (or have read) this book!
(Dani – thanks for letting me know about the bad link…it’s fixed!)
Saw your blog bookmarked on Delicious. I love your site and marketing strategy.
