At last, the motivation I need to read MIDDLESEX and revisit the Kingsolver (one of my favorites). Great summer reads! Can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

I still haven’t finished Middlesex but endeavour to… soon. My sister did a rather humourous singing review. She hadn’t read it!! http://www.youtube.com/nicnic17socks#p/u/7/xHcFxgvBCyY

YES!!! Finally Ann will have to read one of my all-time favorite books! Of course, this news comes with great apprehension on my part … what if she doesn’t like it?!?! I can’t wait to see how this project goes for the both of you. :)

And Ann – it was wonderful to meet you in New York this past week. Thank you again for participating in the Book Blogger Convention Marketing Panel. It was great working with you!

Middlesex was a really great read. It’s one of those I wish I could read again for the first time.

Oh, I’m sure we will … though perhaps not formally since by the time the retreat rolls around in April my brain will be fried and I will have forgotten everything I read over the summer ;)

    Hi Ann,

I’m going to read The Poisonwood with you. Middlesex is wonderful – and more impressively one of my husband’s favorites and he reads about five novels a year. My husband is Greek and his grandmother is from Smyrna – a part of the novel he found particularly authentic.

I also wanted to thank you for participating in the BBC marketing panel. I’m a Luddite author new to the blogosphere and you and the lot showed me an exciting new cyberspace world.

I listened to your podcast regarding summer book picks and think you wound up with two winners. Thanks also for the recommendation of The Invisible Bridge, which I have put on hold at the NYPL.

I think I voted for both of these. One because I had read it and love to hear what others think about it (The Poisonwood Bible) and one because I have always been curious but never got around to it (Middlesex.) This is a good excuse to pick it up. I did love The Virgin Suicides.

There’s just so much to read. I can’t even scratch the surface.

I have both of those on my shelf, just waiting for an excuse to read them. I think I’ll make those my summer reading as well.

I also need to read Middlesex because it has been on my nightstand for years now and I keep putting it off.

This actually inspired me to make my own summer reading list because I am so disappointed that there’s no “required reading” for adults. So I decided that I would make a “Books on the Nightstand” summer reading list of all the books that I put on my nightstand after listening to Ann and Michael’s recommendations. Anyone who wants to join is more than welcome!

Both of these books are excellent; however, I’m disappointed to see that neither of Michael Chabon’s novels made the cut, especially The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. Call me curious, but I’d love to know how the rest of the voting turned out.

Yes! I loved The Poisonwood Bible. I actually got the book on CD in addition to reading it & it was wonderful. I have Middlesex in my library and have heard nothing but praise for it, so I might have to bump that one up my list. Right now I’m into The Weed That Strings the Hangman’s Bag with dear Flavia de Luce… one I wouldn’t have read without BotNS’s recommendation of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie!.
