It’s a short episode this week, with two of my favorite books from last year, now in paperback.

It’s often difficult for Ann and I to find the time to record, but this past week it was downright impossible. So, for this week’s episode, you’re stuck with just me. I’m keeping it short, telling you about two books I loved last year, that are now available in paperback: Blind Descent by James Tabor and The Many Deaths of the Firefly Brothers by Thomas Mullen. (clicking on the images below will take you to the podcasts where I originally discussed the books in hardcover)

Ann and I will both be back next week, with an episode in our usual format. See you then!

I love that you two are consistent in your podcasts, even with scheduling conflicts and busy schedules you manage to provide your listeners with something on a weekly basis. Thank you for your dedication to your loyal listeners.

I stopped reading Blind Descent about halfway through for two reasons: the unrelenting idolization of Bill Stone and the writing style; its short, chunky chapters not the least of its flaws. However, the book did introduce me to a topic about which I knew nothing, caving. Also, the covers of both the hard cover and the paperback editions are outstanding. But beware what lies beneath those covers.

I’m so sorry you didn’t enjoy Blind Descent Patricia. I guess there’s no book that everyone will love!

Funny because I recently read another paperback also titled Blind Descent and also about caving…but this one was fiction by Nevada Barr. We love to visit National Parks so I enjoy her mysteries set in NPs (this one in Carlsbad Caverns).

    Good show, Michael –
